Lost property

Does anyone have experience of how lost property in case homes should be managed? My mother in law moved into a care home about 9-10 weeks ago and several items have gone missing, including three pairs of glasses, a ceramic vase, a remote-control handset for a TV and a (very) large cushion for her chair.

The care home manager is relying on the 'we can't take responsibility for items going missing' line as justification for these items not being found but it seems unreasonable that we are expected to replace items that were clearly labelled and were left in my mother in laws bedroom.

I have had a similar experience over the last year

Brand New glasses including their case

But now last week a necklace and a Ruby Ring, I have given the home manager until tomorrow 26/06/18 to find the 'missing items' before the police are invloved, to be fair the Home Manager has been 100% supportive.

Frustrating none the less, however I think you'll find that our relatives/loved ones should have insurance for their belongings, but in the case of continual theft the police should be involved.
