Saint Francis Hospice is an independent charity and provides services for people with palliative care needs and life limiting illnesses. The hospice serves people in its surrounding areas including Havering, Brentwood, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge. The hospice provides a range of services including inpatient, hospice at home service for people in their homes and community and day services. Other services provided by the hospice include therapies, counselling services and services for family, friends and carers of people at the hospice.

People's experience of the service

Patients at the hospice reported feeling safe and were actively involved in decisions and planning around their care. Staff ensured individualised preferences were incorporated into personalised care plans through conversations with patients and relatives. Patients valued the hospice's seamless approach to care coordination with access to records reducing the need to repeat information, contributing to a smoother experience. Patients described staff as being knowledgeable and responsive with enough staff to appropriately manage care. Patients were receiving person-centred care with regular engagement with staff, discussing physical and mental wellbeing. Staff had a good awareness of risks and incident reporting. The hospice demonstrated a strong commitment to improvement and encouraged staff to share learning. Staff kept up to date with comprehensive mandatory training and felt supported to pursue further learning. Regular and robust audits ensured high standards of care and continuous improvement was prioritised across the service.
