Our view of the service
The assessment commenced on 14 August 2024 and was completed on 30 August 2024. Roop Cottage is a residential care home for older people and people living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 17 people living at the home. We looked at 34 quality statements across all 5 key questions. The overall rating at this assessment is requires improvement. We found the provider had made improvements to all areas of the service since our last assessment. Further improvements were required to ensure safety events were reviewed robustly and risks to people's health, safety and welfare were consistently assessed and informed staff practice. There were improvements to the environment. Medicines were managed safely. There were enough staff to support people safely and they had the support, training and skills to carry out their role. People were supported to have choice and control and give feedback on their care. There was a new manager and deputy manager in place and they were working effectively with the staff team and the provider. Updated audit and governance processes had recently been introduced. The provider demonstrated they were committed to embedding the new systems a continuing on an improvement pathways
People's experience of this service
People and relatives spoke positively about the care and support they received at Roop Cottage. They told us there had been improvements since our last assessment. People and relatives told us staff were kind and compassionate and understood people's care needs. There were opportunities for people and relatives to share their views informally, and via meetings and surveys. During the assessment we observed warm and trusting interactions where people's choices, preferences and independence were respected and promoted.
