People’s choices were respected and they were in control of the care and support provided. She can ask for whatever she would like for her breakfast, such as toast, cereal, porridge, or a fried egg; the care workers will give her lots of choice.” People felt staff supported them to maintain their independence. People said, “The care workers encourage me to do things for myself and will show me easier ways of doing things, such as how to get out of the bed and into the chair”, “The staff are enabling us to stay at home and be independent at home” and “The staff encourage me, they get me to try and do things and say ‘come on you can do it’, they are very good.”

Staff encouraged people to do as much as they could for themselves and supported them to maintain their independence. Staff told us, “We give them the opportunity to do it for themselves. We only assist when they show they can’t do it” and “We encourage everyone to do as much as they can for themselves.” Staff ensured people were in control of their care and respected their choices.
