Our current view of the service
Updated
10 September 2024
We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 5 November 2024.
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.
Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.
The practice had some systems to manage risks. The assessment highlighted additional risks in Radiography, Legionella and sharps injury processes.
The leadership of the practice requires improvement.
Recruitment procedures did not reflect current legislation, and systems to ensure all staff received training updates relevant to their role were not in place.
Audits were not undertaken at appropriate intervals and improvements could not be demonstrated.
The practice is in Sheffield and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step free access to the practice with a ground floor treatment room, but wheelchair users cannot access the toilet. On street parking was available near the practice.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. The team consists of 10 members of staff. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental therapist and the practice manager.
The provider was not complying with 1 regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of the service
Updated

Two weeks before our onsite assessment, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 3 patients. On the day of our assessment, we spoke with 2 patients and saw patient feedback from a further 8 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Comments included: “The dental practice is always lovely and clean, reception staff are helpful and friendly”, “A clean, safe and hygienic environment”, “I can honestly say I have had such a good experience here. I have seen 3 different dentists for various treatments and all 3 put me at ease” and “Always so kind and friendly, delivering excellent dental care”.
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
While the people we spoke to expressed that they were generally happy with their care, our assessment found there was a regulation that was not met.
