This service supports people with dementia and so some people were not always able to tell us their views about the home. Because of some peoples' communication difficulties we spent time observing people who use the service to see what effect the environment and staff interactions had on their wellbeing.People who use the service told us that staff were kind and respected their privacy.
We observed staff supporting people in a friendly and professional way and saw that people were being offered choice with regard to menus and activities.
Staff we interviewed were able to give us examples of how they maintained peoples' dignity, privacy, independence and how they offered choices to people on a daily basis.
People said they felt supported by the staff team and that they were included in decisions about their care as far as possible. They told us that they had been asked about their care needs and, where possible, they had visited the home before making a decision to move in.
We observed people being appropriately supported by staff at the home. People told us they enjoyed the food at the home and there was always enough to eat.
Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of the needs of the people they supported.
People who use the service indicated to us that they felt safe with the staff at the home. They told us that if they had concerns about their care they would speak with their relative or the staff.
Staff we spoke with understood the need to protect people they support from abusive practices and were aware of the procedures for reporting suspected abuse to the manager of the service.
People told us they had confidence in how the staff supported them and people we spoke to said they felt safe with the staff when they were providing care.
People also said the management and staff were approachable and friendly.
Staff we spoke with were positive about the training provided by the service and confirmed they had attended the essential training they required.
People were positive about the quality of care and confirmed that the staff usually asked them how things were going and if they were happy with the care provided at Parkview House.
