Our view of the service

Jasmine House is registered to provide accommodation and personal care for up to six people with mental health support needs and learning disabilities. There were six people living at the service at the time of this assessment. This was the first assessment of this service carried out under our single assessment framework. Assessment activity took place between 24 July and15 September. This was an unannounced assessment, and we visited the home on the 24 July. We looked at 13 quality statements: learning culture, safeguarding, involving people to manage risk, safe environments, infection prevention and control, safe and effective staffing, medicines optimisation, shared direction and culture, capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders, freedom to speak up, governance and assurance, partnership and communities and learning, improvement and innovation. We assessed whether the service met the Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture Guidance. We found people were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. During the assessment, we spoke with 1 person who lived at the home. We spoke with staff on duty who included the registered manager. We carried out observations of care and support. Our observations included the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We looked at a range of records, policies and procedures and how medicines were managed.

People's experience of this service

The home was welcoming, and clean and personalized to people’s individuals’ choice and preferences. We observed people to be happy and relaxed in staff’s company. There was enough staff to care for people in a safe way and we observed some kind and caring interactions between people and staff. People were supported to attend various activities in the community and were also supported to see their friends and relatives. People had access to health professionals and there was input from people’s relatives and representatives. The principles of The Mental Capacity Act (2005) (MCA) were understood and implemented by staff.
