People told us they were happy with the care they were receiving and that they were given choices about their care. They said that the staff respected their privacy and treated them with respect and kindness. People said they never felt rushed to do anything or rushed with their care. One person commented 'You can choose when to get up, if you want to stay in bed for an extra few hours that's fine'. Another person described how the staff respected their wishes saying 'When I first came here I preferred to be called Mrs X, but as I got to know them I was happy for them to call me by my first name. The staff respected that'. A relative commented 'I like the personal touches, they will come and do X's nails and eyebrows'. Everyone we spoke with said they knew who to talk to if they had any concerns about their care and felt confident that their concerns would be taken seriously. People told us that there were activities in the home each day. One person said 'There are always activities going on and you can choose what you want to do'. Another person commented 'We have a pianist who comes in who is very good' and 'I love gardening and the gardener has helped me to pot up some things in the greenhouse'.
People told us they were satisfied with the meals provided and were always given a choice of what they had to eat and drink. People told us that 'The food wasn't great for a while, but now the chef has changed and it is much better', 'The quality is good' and 'We have a choice of two main meals, but they will always make you an omelette or something else if you want'.
People told us that the home was always kept clean. Several people commented that if they reported something was in need of repair it was always fixed very quickly. People said that they had been able to personalise their room and bring their own furniture and belongings. One person commented 'I was able to bring my own furniture and that's what really made it for me'.
People using the service told us that they felt there were enough staff working in the home to meet their needs. They said that the staff were always available to come quickly when they called them and the longest they had ever had to wait was about five minutes. Comments about the staff support included;
'I would say there are enough staff',
'I have never had to wait long for someone to come and help me',
'All the staff are very nice' and
'The carers are what really make it here; from the first visit it had a lovely atmosphere'.
People told us that they were asked their views of the service regularly through questionnaires and the residents meetings. They felt their views were listened to. People told us they thought the service was managed well and that action was always taken quickly to address any problems.
