Haydons Park Lodge is a residential care home providing personal care and support to up to 13 people. At the time of our inspection there were 9 people living at the care home. We conducted our on-site assessment of this service on 26 January 2024 and off-site assessment activity continued until 16 February 2024. We looked at 7 quality statements including Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Assessing needs; Consent to care and treatment; Independence, choice and control and Equity in experiences and outcomes. Staff and managers understood their duty to safeguard people from abuse and protect them from harm. Staff had received training in recognising and reporting the signs of abuse. Staff understood how to reduce risks to people, to keep them safe from injury or harm whilst ensuring people were not subject to any unnecessary restrictions. There were enough staff on duty to support people and meet their needs. There were robust checks to make sure staff were suitable to be employed and support people. Staff received regular and relevant training to meet people’s needs. People’s needs were assessed and reviewed to ensure they continued to receive the appropriate care and support. People were supported to consent to their care and treatment. There was a clear understanding of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and this was only used when it was in the best interest of the person. Staff made sure people were supported to have choice and control and make decisions about how their care was provided. Staff supported people to be as independent as possible and respected their rights. Staff treated people equally and fairly and reduced the risk of them of being excluded from receiving care and support they were entitled to.
