Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 21 January 2025 to 23 January 2025. The service is a nursing home providing support to adults of all ages living with dementia, nursing needs, and physical disabilities. This assessment was in response to CQC receiving information of concern. Since our last assessment, the provider had not taken the necessary action needed to make improvements. The systems in place to monitor the quality of the home and the care people received were not in place or not effective. Risks to people were not always fully considered as care plans were not always clear, consistent or followed, information from people’s assessment had not always been fully considered to establish and maintain safe systems of care. The lack of effective systems in place meant there were missed opportunities for learning. Improvements were needed to ensure all medicines were managed in a safe way, so people had these at the correct times and as prescribed. There were not always enough staff to ensure people received the correct support when they needed this. The systems in place to monitor staffing levels in the home were not effective. Concerns were shared around the care culture of the staff which meant we could not be assured all concerns were being raised. Areas of the home needed improvements to ensure it was safe and free from risk. However, staff were safely recruited and trained. Staff said the home was a good place to work and they felt supported, listened to and involved. There were safeguarding procedures in place, and these were followed when needed. The provider was in breach of the legal regulations relating to people’s safe care and treatment including medicines management, staffing and governance systems. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

We received mixed feedback from people about their experiences of living in the home. Some people raised concerns around the staffing levels in the home, how their risks were managed and the care culture of the staff. However, they were happy with how their medicines were managed, the environment and infection control. They were generally happy with the home and how it was managed.
