The registered manager ensured everyone could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it. Staff worked to ensure that everyone had good experiences and outcomes despite any barriers they may face. The values and ethos of the service supported this.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

People told us they had good experiences and outcomes. One person told us, 'If there's anything I need or want I can just ask, and they'll help me [staff].” Relatives felt their views, and their family member’s views, were listened to and people’s aspirations were considered when support was planned. A relative told us, “My [family member’s] goal is to enjoy life, and this has definitely been achieved.”

Staff told us people were listened to and they worked with everyone in the service to plan goals and outcomes. One staff member told us, “We use goals and achievement logs for people we support and monitor progress monthly.” Staff told us they had training to support people’s rights and to recognise and challenge discrimination. The registered manager shared some ‘Good News Stories’ that showed how people had met some of their set goals, such as buying a hot tub, completing a sponsored walk to raise money for charity and one person pursuing their interest in first aid to become a qualified first aider.

Support plans considered people’s rights and barriers to people having equal experiences and outcomes. The home’s ‘Statement of Purpose’ document stated, “We believe that everyone is different and our approach to each person is unique, and person centred. We believe that life is for living and we support and enable the people we support to live the life they want to. We encourage people to have dreams and aspirations and we work tirelessly with them to achieve these.” People were supported to have access to health and other support services. The provider monitored the outcomes people achieved and was working with people to set further goals.
