Abbots House Registered Supported Living is a supported living service. This service provides care and support to people living in a number of ‘supported living’ apartments, so that they can live as independently as possible. People’s care and housing are provided under separate contractual agreements. CQC does not regulate premises used for supported living; this assessment looked at people’s personal care and support. Date of assessment: 4 June 2024 to 5 July 2024. Reason for assessment: We received concerns about the quality and safety of care which we wanted to check on. As this was the first inspection since the service had moved, we carried out an assessment of all quality statements and all evidence categories. The overall rating at this assessment was requires improvement. We found a breach of regulation around poor person-centred care. While people were generally satisfied with their care, we found concerns around staff culture, teamworking and the approach of staff when supporting some people. The provider was working with staff to try and improve the culture in the service; however, this had not yet been fully embedded and sustained. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People did not raise concerns with us and seemed satisfied with the care they received. People openly engaged with staff and seemed comfortable in their presence. People were kept safe from harm. However, people’s care had been impacted by staff behaviours and poor teamwork, so people had not always been supported in line with ‘Right support, right care, right culture’.
