Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 21 December 2023

Moorhouse Nursing Home (Moorhouse) is a nursing home that provides care to older people, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Our assessment commenced on 22 January and was completed 10 February. At our last inspection we identified breaches of Regulation 11 (Need for consent), Regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment), Regulation 15 (Premises and equipment), Regulation 17 (Good governance) and Regulation 18 (Staffing) of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. During our assessment we found the provider had made improvements in all these areas and was no longer in breach.

People's experience of the service

Updated 21 December 2023

People and their relatives felt the service had improved, and that staff provided them with kind and compassionate care. For example, one person said, “I can’t fault it. The staff are kind.” A relative told us, “I feel the home is well managed and led and staff not only look out for the residents but the families as well, knowing us (and our pet) by name and what we're up to. They feel like an extended family. My thanks goes to [the manager] and her entire team for looking after Mum so well.” Another relative told us, “During [my loved one’s] night wanderings they interact with him. If he does not want to go back to bed, they accept that. They will offer him a biscuit and make him a cup of tea. I think they are dealing with that correctly.' A further relative said, “With the recent appointment of activities coordinator, the residents are at last being stimulated with various entertainment and activities.” Relatives felt the service were transparent as they had access to a read only version of the service’s care records, meaning they were able to view records and updates on their loved one’s care throughout the day. One relative said, “It means that I can see what is happening to [family member] every time a member of staff has anything to do with him. If there any issues I have got concerns about, it means I can pick up the phone.”
