Date of assessment: 15 July to 29 July 2024. Stainsbridge House provides accommodation and personal care for 46 people, living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 38 people using the service. We undertook an unannounced on-site assessment on the 15 July 2024, followed by an announced on-site assessment on 23 and 29 July 2024. We found one breach of the legal regulations in relation to governance. Governance systems and audits were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement. For example, leaders had not identified risks to people’s safety were not always well managed and the management of distressed behaviour was not supported by clear and detailed care planning. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. Staff received regular training, although more dementia care training was needed and planned. The environment was clean and homely, and a refurbishment program was being followed to enhance the environment for people and to address those aspects which compromised safety. Medicines were given as prescribed and staff were knowledgeable about how people liked to take their medicines, but the disposal of medicines was not being undertaken in line with policy. There was a caring, supportive culture and people’s rights were promoted. Many positive interactions were observed between people and staff and a clear focus on activity provision was given. People received assistance in a timely manner and feedback about staff and leaders was good. Leaders were very much involved in the day to day running of the home and spent time with people and their relatives. They encouraged people and their relatives to share their views about the service and raise any concerns they had. Leaders took time to listen and act on any feedback received.
