Our view of the service

Tieve Tara Medical Centre is a NHS GP practice which provides primary care services to patients in Castleford, West Yorkshire. The practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission to deliver the regulated activities; diagnostic and screening procedures, maternity and midwifery services, treatment of disease, disorder or injury and surgical procedures. The practice is situated within the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and delivers Personal Medical Services to a patient population of 5,595. The practice is part of Wakefield North Primary Care Network (PCN). Tieve Tara Medical Centre is managed by a head of primary care. Clinical services are delivered by 2 salaried GPs, 3 regular locum GPs, 1 advanced nurse practitioner, 1 clinical pharmacist, 1 lead nurse, 1 practice nurse, 1 nurse associate, and 1 healthcare assistant. The clinical team is supported by a practice manager and a team of receptionists and administration staff. In addition, a number of staff employed by PCN work at the practice. Information published by Public Health England shows that deprivation within the practice population group is ranked 1 (1-10, where 1 is most deprived and 10 is least deprived). According to the latest available data, the ethnic make-up of the practice area is 96% White, 4% Other. The practice was previously inspected in July 2023 and rated requires improvement overall and in the key questions safe and effective. The practice was rated good in the key questions caring, responsive and well-led. We carried out this assessment to review the practices current performance in the key questions safe, effective, and well-led. Following this assessment, the practice is rated requires improvement overall and in the key questions safe and well-led. The practice is rated good in the key question effective. We have identified a breach of regulation 17 (good governance) and have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

The National GP Patient Survey for 2024 showed that the practice was performing well compared to local and national averages in areas such as finding it easy to get through to the practice by phone and finding the reception and administrative team at the practice helpful. The practice did not perform as well in areas such as finding it easy to contact the practice using their website and having confidence and trust in the healthcare professional patients saw or spoke to during their last appointment. Of the 123 patients who completed the survey, 75% of patients described their overall experience of the practice as good. Feedback from representatives from the patient participation group regarding their interactions with the practice was positive. The NHS Friends and Family Test data from the last 6 months showed that for each month over 90% of respondents rated their overall experience of the practice as good or very good.
