Our view of the service
Fletcher House is a care home and provides personal care for older people and those living with dementia. The home can accommodate a maximum of 57 people. The building is divided into two separate units. One unit provides care for up to 15 people living with dementia and the other provides care to 42 older people with personal care needs. At the time of the inspection there were 54 people living at the home. We carried out our onsite assessment on 7 February 2024, off site activity started on 8 February 2024 and ended on 23 February 2024. We looked at 6 quality statements; Learning culture, Safeguarding, Involving people to manage risks, Safe and effective staffing, Infection, prevention and control and Medicines Optimisation. At our last inspection the service was rated good. At this assessment the service remains good.
People's experience of this service
People felt safe at Fletcher House and with the staff who supported them. Comments included, “I feel safe”, “The best thing is, I feel safe” and “It’s ok, safe. Staff are kind to me.” A relative told us, “No one is ever neglected…safe and sound here. Definitely know I am leaving them safely.” During the site visit we saw kind and respectful interactions between people and staff. People were complimentary about the staff supporting them. Comments included, “Staff are good” and “Staff are ever so good to me. I don’t have family, but the staff get me Christmas and Birthday presents.” A relative told us, “Staff are beautiful, I can’t begin to praise them enough. They love their work, put themselves out, go over and above.” Some people felt there were enough staff available to meet their needs, although others raised concerns regarding staffing levels and the length of time staff took to answer call bells, particularly in the evening. People and relatives told us the manager was approachable and would deal with any concerns. Comments included, “There was an issue, we noticed and told staff, the manager was brilliant. They are brilliant here”, “I would speak to the manager if I have any concerns, she is very approachable, she’s a very nice person” and “The manager will do anything, cook meals, cleaning (even in the evening when she should have gone home), she’s brilliant, just the ticket, she’s lovely.”
