Equity in experiences and outcomes
People had a variety of care and support needs. Staff promoted equality and supported people to live a life they had chosen. For example, people had the opportunity and were supported by staff to observe their religious beliefs both in the home and in the community. Food and activities were tailored to people’s individual needs. If a person preferred to be supported by a female or male care worker this was recorded and respected.
Staff and leaders had a good understanding of equality and promoted this in their service. For example, people were given information in accessible formats. Staff and leaders told us they would not discriminate against anyone based on their protected characteristics. People had full access to health care professionals. Staff and leaders promoted people’s rights.
The provider had a system in place to protect people’s rights. Staff had training in equality and diversity. This enabled staff to challenge discrimination and promote equality. Care records showed people’s religious and cultural needs were recorded and we observed staff promoting these needs during our visit.
