We were provided with a copy of a survey that had been done by St Helens Council for the period ending 30/9/10. The survey was of 14 people who use the services of Housing21 St Helens.

In reply to the question 'Has the current provider agreed with you how you would like the care to be delivered?, the reply was 100% 'yes'.

In response to the statement 'My care workers do things the way I like them to be done', four people strongly agreed, nine agreed and not applicable was recorded for one person.

In response to the statement 'The care workers carry out tasks according to what I need each time they visit', all of the people surveyed agreed or strongly agreed.

All of the people surveyed agreed or strongly agreed with the statement 'I feel that I am able to ask for changes in the way my care is provided'.

The local authority survey asked for people's comments on the statement 'Care workers support me to ensure I have nutritious and tasty food and drink that I like when I want them'. Four people strongly agreed, nine agreed and one was not applicable.

Comments recorded from the people who were surveyed by the local authority were:

The survey carried out by the local authority found that medication records were not always maintained appropriately.

One person we spoke with said that the carers are never more than a little bit late. She has the same regular carers and they are always very polite. She can ring the team manager at the office if she has any queries and the team manager is always helpful, She has never had any complaints

Another person we spoke with said that the staff are lovely girls, and some of the carers are men, who are also very good. They call three times a day to see her husband and she finds their visits very reassuring as he has dementia and it is hard work for her. They stay 15-20 minutes and are always on time. She called into the office to meet staff there and manager told her to call them anytime.

The local authority survey asked people 'Are you happy with the number of different care workers you see?' and all replied yes. In response to the statement 'I get high quality, reliable care from people who are friendly, professional and good at their job', all the respondents agreed or strongly agreed.

In response to the St Helens Council survey, eleven people replied that they would know how to make a complaint, but two said they would not.

The people we spoke with said that they would make a complaint to the office if there was anything they were not happy with.
