Date of assessment: 18 June 2024 to 27 June 2024. This assessment was in response to CQC receiving information of concern. We found there were concerns around how health was managed, medicines management and health and safety oversight monitoring in the home. The governance systems in place were not effective in identifying concerns we found during this assessment and recruitment checks did not always take place as agreed in policies and procedures. This meant at times checks were not completed to ensure staff were suitable to care for vulnerable adults. Mental capacity assessments were not clear, and documentation required to decide around a person’s mental capacity was not found to be in place. There was no evidence to show the 5 principles of the mental capacity act had been explored. The environment needed to improve. The home had a urine odour when walking in through the front door. The registered manager and provider had a renovation plan in place to address concerns around the environment.

Peoples experience of the service overall was positive and complimentary of the care provided. One relative told us, ‘I cannot thank the staff enough for all they do’. 1 person told us, ‘I enjoy living here, I like the staff and have friends here’. On occasions we observed there was some conflict between residents, but overall, they got on well together and there was a pleasant atmosphere. Relatives we spoke with told us people got on very well. Two residents told us about their day and liked the structure. We observed at times people were left unattended, but for short periods of time. However, risks around people’s mobility and safety were not always considered when no staff were present.
