Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 28 January 2025. This was the first assessment of SD Care Agency London, which is registered to provide personal care and support to older people living in their own home . At the time of the assessment, they were supporting 3 people. The service was well-led, with a positive culture of learning and improvement. People felt safe, and staff were trained to recognise and manage risks. Safeguarding procedures were in place to record and respond to potential safeguarding incidents. Staff followed clear protocols to ensure people’s safety while promoting their independence. Effective risk assessments were in place and routinely updated.

People received care that met their individual needs. The service used a compliance and quality management system to monitor quality. Staff training was delivered through an accredited learning platform, ensuring they had the necessary skills and knowledge. A digital care planning system enabled staff to document, track, and manage care effectively, ensuring support was person-centred. Rotas were structured to provide continuity, allowing staff to plan leave without disrupting care.

People were treated with kindness and respect. Staff prioritised dignity, choice, and independence. People and their families spoke positively about their care and felt listened to. The service was responsive to individual needs, with assessments regularly reviewed to reflect any changes. Staff worked closely with health professionals to achieve positive outcomes for people.

Staff felt supported and encouraged to share feedback. The service engaged with external partners to improve care quality and remained committed to equality and inclusion. There was a strong focus on continuous improvement, ensuring care was safe, effective, and responsive to people’s needs.

People's experience of this service

A relative felt that care workers did their best and became more effective as they settled into the role. They acknowledged that while some care workers were more proactive and engaging than others, overall, staff were kind, willing to help, and treated their loved one with respect. They noted occasional challenges, such as care workers arriving late due to travel difficulties and some initial communication barriers, but these were generally addressed over time. They also expressed confidence that if they had any concerns, they could raise them with the provider, and they would be responded to efficiently. While they felt the administrative side of the service was well-organised, they recognised that the nature of care work meant staff turnover was high, and care workers often moved on to different roles. Despite this, they believed that staff made an effort to provide good care and support.
