This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Assessing needs

Score: 3

People and their relatives told us they knew about care plans and peoples needs had been assessed. One relative said, “I did a questionnaire with them, quite detailed regarding [relatives] interests.” Another said, “No real issues, occasionally not shaved or has food on clothing. I’ve mentioned this to the staff and management, and they updated the care plan.”

We saw that people’s care plans included assessments of need, as well as risk assessments. These covered areas that were important to people, such as health, daily living, and goals to be achieved. All of these were regularly reviewed and updated as people’s needs changed. The registered manager invited people to the service for assessment and offered people and their families the opportunity of a remote viewing of the home via video call, as part of their pre admission assessment.

The provider had a robust preadmissions policy in place to ensure they could meet individuals' needs. The provider had systems in place to review and update care plans as people's needs changed and relatives were involved where appropriate. Care plans detailed what was important to people and information sharing was clear. From speaking with the registered manager there was a holistic approach that included cultural needs and mental wellbeing as well as people's physical needs. We noted a good staff ratio, ensuring that they could adequately meet the needs of the people supported.
