During a routine inspection

Cromer House provides care, treatment and support for people who can verbally communicate and people who are non verbal. During our visit to the home on 13th December 2011 we spoke with three people using the service who told us they were happy with their care, treatment and support. One person told us 'they (support workers) look after me well' another person told us 'I like it here it's good, the food is nice and I like them (support workers)'.

People living in the home who were not able to communicate with us verbally used Makaton signs, or shared their views through gestures, facial expressions and body language wherever possible.

We observed the care and support provided to people who used the service and the interaction they had with their support workers. This was friendly, caring, respectful and professional.

Support Workers were attentive to the needs of people and they responded to people's non verbal communication requests for assistance promptly. People were provided with choices, such as the activities that they participated in and the food and drinks that they preferred. People and their clothing were clean, which showed that their personal needs were attended to and that their dignity was respected.
