Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 11 and 12 February 2025.

The service is a residential care home providing support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia. The service is registered to support 71 people. There were 49 people living at the service on the first day we visited and 51 people on the second.

The service did not always ensure information about people’s care and health needs were consistent. Although staff undertook regular reviews about people’s care, relatives and people did not always understand how they had been involved in these. Risks relating to people’s medical needs were not always contained within care plans. This meant staff were not always directed about how to support people with these needs. There was a lack of consistency within documentation about people’s capacity. People had not consented to their inclusion in the use of social media. People told us and we observed poor dining experiences, and in relation to hygiene practices during meal service. However, effective infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures across all other areas of the home were in place. Governance and audit systems had not identified the issues found during the inspection. The service was responsive in ensuring these issues were addressed promptly following the inspection.

Staff did not always respect people’s privacy. People told us staff were kind and respected their dignity.

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and staff told us they enjoyed working for the provider. Leaders were visible within the service. Staff had received appropriate training to support them to carry out their roles. However, it was evident that some of this training had not been fully embedded and management checks were not effective in ensuring this. Appropriate referrals had been made to support people to lead healthy lives. People got access to the medical professionals they needed. The environment and equipment was well-maintained.
