During an assessment under our new approach

Select Support + is registered to provide a domiciliary care service that provides personal care and support to people living in their own homes. During the assessment we identified they were also providing a supported living service. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of the assessment, the service supported 4 people who received personal care. We carried out an assessment which started on 6 August and ended on 23 August 2024. This was the first assessment since registration. We found 1 breach of the legal regulations in relation to governance. Systems and audits were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement. Safe recruitment procedures were not always followed, and improvements were needed to ensure staff were trained and competent. Improvements were needed in relation to risk management and care planning. Not all risk related to people were assessed and improvements were needed in medicines management to ensure staff had access to consistent and up-to-date information. There were sufficient and consistent staff to provide personalised care and support. Staff promoted choices and independence and worked around people’s preferred routines. Staff did everything they could to avoid restraining people. The service recorded when staff restrained people, and learnt from those incidents and how they might be avoided or reduced. The ethos of the service was to provide person-centred care and promote people's independence. The management team were open and transparent throughout our assessment. They were responsive to feedback given and started making changes to improve the service. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
