Freedom to speak up
Staff told us they were supported by the registered manager. Staff had training in safeguarding and were able to tell us confidently what they would do if they had any concerns about a person or their care. Staff were able to feed back to management about the training they received. One staff member said, “I’m very happy here. If I have any personal stuff, if I feel overwhelmed, I can speak to the team and they support me to take time off. I am well supported.”
The provider had a policy looking at ‘Resident of the day’ which encouraged feedback and review of care and support provided for the person. These were documented and any concerns arising from these were logged within the complaints procedure if needed. The head of quality assurances manager also confirmed these review days were reflected within their monthly reports to identify any themes and trends. Various surveys were completed to inform the management on quality issues. This included a staff survey that recorded high satisfaction from the staff group, completed in January 2024. Comments included “I must commend the effort of the management of all the staff at Mulberry House. I enjoy each day at work, the communication and togetherness are unique. Cheers to everyone.” and “I’ve been a nurse for 8 years, and worked in numerous homes. Despite how intense and challenging it can be at times Mulberry House has been without doubt the most enjoyable place to work so far.” Other surveys included a rolling programme for feedback from people, relatives and visiting professionals.
