We asked people what the food was like, and everyone we spoke to said it was very good. One person said "There's plenty of variety", another said "You can have more or less what you want", and a third person said "It's delicious, like the food you'd get in a first class hotel".
People who used the service said they thought staff were well trained to do their jobs. One person staying in Curzon House said, "The staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble". Another said "The staff are very helpful and create a very nice atmosphere". A relative said "They're great, I've nothing to complain about".
At our last inspection in January 2013 we found that the recording of medication was poor and people were not assessed as to their ability to self-medicate. At this inspection we found that there had been some improvements but the home was still not fully compliant. It was not always possible to tell from the records whether people had received their prescribed medication.

People said their needs were met by the number of staff provided and that call bells were answered within a couple of minutes, although one person said that at night it often took longer for staff to answer the bell. They were very complimentary about the staff and comments included: "The staff are very helpful and seem tuned in to my needs"; "They're marvellous"; "The staff are very good".
There was a good system in place for people to make comments or complaints. The home had not received any complaints in the last year.
We found that record keeping in relation to medicines and care plans was poor and could potentially place people at risk of receiving inappropriate care or treatment.

A community nurse manager told us 'Staff take a genuine interest in their clients and endeavour to engage them'.
When we asked about the care we were told 'The care is faultless, they've been absolutely marvellous every time I've stayed here. I want for nothing.'
A community nurse manager told us 'Curzon House is well respected within the team and the staff are great. Whenever we visit there are always activities taking place. Personal hygiene is of a high standard and meals are served in the dining room. Patients appear to be in a good nutritional state.'
We asked people who used the service if they would know how to raise a concern about something that was worrying them. They expressed confidence that if they had a problem they would be able to discuss it with the home's manager and that it would be taken seriously.
One person staying in Curzon House said 'The staff have been absolutely marvellous every time I've stayed here'. Another said 'The staff are very good, they'll do anything you ask. I haven't been here before but would come again. In fact, I don't want to go home.'
A community nurse manager told us 'Staff are helpful and polite and they treat their clients with respect and patience. Senior staff act as a point of contact for the community nurses and supply us with information regarding the progress of patients on a daily basis. Any instructions we have regarding care is passed through them who cascade information to other staff.'
