All Inspections

23 October 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to all four people who were using the service and were told that they felt happy and safe at the home. We were told that they had enough to eat and had open access to the food. One service user told us that he could "come and go" as he wished and often went out for breakfast at a local cafe, he felt that this helped his rehabilitation and increased his independence.

Another service user told us that "Its not bad here, nothing else better." He told us that he felt comfortable there with his own possessions and did not want to move. We noticed that there were extra heaters in the room and people that we spoke to said "It gets a bit draughty sometimes, so the staff give us the extra heaters and that helps". Staff we spoke with told us that the home was due to relocate to better premises in the near future and that all the people using the service had been to visit the new facility. This was confirmed by all four people we interviewed, who were happy to move to the new premises.

Peoples individual needs were met through an assessment and an agreed plan of care and support. Arrangements were in place to ensure the safety of vulnerable people.

The service collected the views of people who used the service and ensured that action was taken where improvements were needed.

20 February 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with two staff members and three people using the service. We reviewed three staff records and two care records.

One person using the service told us, 'It's just like home.'

Peoples' diversity, values and human rights were respected and people were treated as individuals. Staff told us they took the time to get to know the people they were supporting and get them involved in their care.

People using the service had their physical health, mental health and social support needs assessed and monitored through care plans and regular key worker sessions. Risk assessments were undertaken and staff were aware of behavioural triggers.

People using the service told us they felt safe and staff were knowledgeable in identifying potential signs of abuse. There were safeguards in place to protect people using the service from financial abuse.

Appropriate checks had been undertaken of staff working at the service and effective recruitment and selection processes were in place.

A quality checking system was in place and there were regular discussions with people using the service and staff about how the service can be improved.
