Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 24 July to 1 August 2024. We visited the service on 24 and 25 July, and 1 August 2024. Wilton Place Care Home can accommodate up to 66 people, some of whom have dementia. At the time of this assessment there were 46 people using the service. There was a registered manager in post who had been at the service since it opened. We assessed 33 quality statements across safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led key questions. This is the first assessment for this service since it registered on 12 December 2022. Staff were employed safely and had all the training they needed for their roles. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and staff told us they were well supported. Medicines were managed safely, and staff worked in partnership with many healthcare professionals. The service was purpose built and everyone had their own en-suite room. People had access to outside garden space. The environment was clean, and we observed staff wearing personal protective equipment safely. The provider had a complaints policy and process and encouraged feedback from people and relatives in a variety of ways. Governance systems were effective to assess, monitor and improve the quality and safety at the service.

Comments included, “The staff do everything they can and a bit more, they are really good” and “The staff are wonderful. I have no complaints.” People and relatives told us the service was hygienic and people thought their rooms were kept clean. Comments from people and relatives about the cleanliness included, “They [staff] clean my room every day. It is spotless” and “Cleanliness is taken very seriously. I like more spicy food”, “The vegetables are boiled for too long and they have no flavour” and “The food is not always good, it is uninteresting.” However, some people told us the food was good. Comments included, “The food is good, we can help ourselves to tea, coffee and cake whenever we want it” and “The food is good, sometimes [person] needs encouragement to eat, help [from staff] is always there if needed.” People and relatives felt there were good systems in place to raise any concerns if needed. One person told us, “If I’m not happy with something, I would talk to the staff. I know the manager, but you can talk to any staff. They are all easy to talk to.” We heard very positive feedback about the management team at the service. People and relatives knew who the registered manager was and felt the service was well-led. Comments about the registered manager included, “The manager is very good and hands on, very approachable” and “We see the manager most times we visit.
