The provider had been aware that improvements had been needed to the short stay facility. We were made aware that this work was now taking place on the property and the service hoped to move in September 2014 to a newly refurbished property in Whitefield and then current Woodbury site would close.

People's care and support was planned and delivered in line with their individual plan. People were supported in promoting their independence and community involvement. Most people we met during our visit told us or indicated, that getting out and about was important to them.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. People we met during our visits were supported by regular support workers who knew them well and understood their support needs. We saw frequent and friendly interactions between people using the service and their support workers.

People who used the Woodbury Short Term Residential Care facility or their relatives were able to give feedback after each visit. We saw recent comments which included, '[my relative] thoroughly enjoyed their short stay and the Christmas Party. When I informed [the person] they were going to Woodbury, they appeared pleased, plus pleased to have the same room. Given they suffer from dementia this proved invaluable' and 'reassured that staff rang us over concerns about [relatives] health' and 'wow, what a fab weekend [my relative] had. Thank you'.

During this visit we spent time at Woodbury Short Term Residential Care and visited people in their own homes at a new complex of flats.

We spoke with a person who had recently started to be supported by the service. They had moved into their own flat from home. They told us about how they had chosen all the furniture and decoration to suit their tastes. This person was keen to tell us about their achievements since moving into their flat. They now were able to do household tasks with minimal support such as buying, preparing and cooking food, washing and ironing and cleaning.

People using the short term residential care service and their family and friends had the opportunity to comment about the service that had been received during their stay. One person commented 'I had a great time. Thanks". One family member had commented that their relative was 'very well turned out, nice hair, dressed well and sat in her chair' and another family member commented that their relative was 'full of smiles when we picked her up and that tells us she enjoyed her stay".

People who were able to speak to us told us that they liked their support workers and could speak to them if they had any concerns. We saw that there were frequent, positive and humorous interactions between people being supported and their support workers.
