Adswood Lodge

During an assessment under our new approach

Adswood Lodge is a care home with nursing, providing support for up to 30 people with complex care needs, including people living with physical and sensory needs, mental health needs and dementia. At the time of our visit there were 28 people receiving care. The assessment of this newly registered service was undertaken between 14 and 28 January 2025 and this was the first assessment. People felt able to raise concerns with incidents fully investigated by the management team and lessons learnt. People were protected and felt safe. Staff were suitably recruited and received appropriate training and support. People received their medicines as needed but we noted some areas for improvement in relation to the records. People were involved in their assessments and their communication, personal and health needs were considered. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy, although some areas of record keeping around the delivery of care needed further improvement. Staff worked well with all agencies involved in people’s care. Appropriate records in relation to consent had not been in place but this was quickly addressed and suitable consent to care records and process were immediately put in place. Staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. People had choice and were encouraged to maintain relationships and independence. There was continuity of staff who knew people well. The provider supported staff wellbeing. People were involved in decisions about their care, they knew how to give feedback and were confident this would be acted on. People received fair and equal care and treatment. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There was a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Managers worked with the local community, were receptive to new ideas and were commitment to continuous improvement.
