Our view of the service
Forest Lodge Care Home is a care home providing accommodation and support with personal and nursing care. It provides support to men with a variety of needs, including mental health, acquired brain injury, dementia and nursing care. The service is registered for a maximum of 43 people and 39 people were using the service at the time of our assessment. Overall, we found the service to be safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. People were protected from abuse and neglect; steps had been taken to mitigate risks people faced. There were enough staff and the provider had robust recruitment practices in place. Medicines were mostly managed safely. The premises were clean and infection control and prevention procedures were in place. The provider worked well with other organisations to meet people’s needs, including healthcare professionals. Staff were caring and supported people to receive person-centred care. People were able to consent to their care and independence, choice and control were promoted. Staff told us they felt supported by management and that they received appropriate training for their roles. People’s needs were met in relation to equality and diversity. Quality assurance and monitoring systems were in place to help drive improvements.
