During a routine inspection
Care plans reviewed were personalised, informative and flexible to the needs of the person. People told us they were content and felt comfortable living in the home. One person said 'I have been living here for more than 10 years and I like it'they take good care of me.' Another person told us 'Staff really support me here and get me what I want and need.'
We found there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. We reviewed two recruitment personnel files, which showed us the correct checks had been performed by the service prior to staff commencing work.
People were made aware of the complaints system. The people and relatives we spoke with did not express any concern about the care they had received. We found that events which affect people's welfare, health and safety were not being reported to the Care Quality Commission as required.

During an inspection looking at part of the service
We found people were being cared for in an environment which was adequately maintained. The provider had introduced a supervision framework and staff had been appraised. Training had been provided to staff to support them to care for people appropriately.

During a routine inspection
People said they felt safe living in the home and they knew who to speak to if they had a problem. One person said "I am happy living here. The staff look after us well." Another person said "staff are good at their job." People told us regular meetings were held with staff. One person said "all sorts of things are discussed such as household duties."
We found that some areas of the premises were not adequately maintained and there was a potential risk that people who use the service staff and visitors were not protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises. We also found that people were not always cared for by staff who were well supported and trained. This is because staff supervision training and developmental needs had not been effectively addressed.
