During an assessment under our new approach

Homelium Dorset is a domiciliary care service providing a regulated activity of personal care. The service was providing care and support to people in their own homes. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of this assessment, there were 70 people using the service. This was the first assessment for the service since their registration, therefore we included all the quality statements under each of the five key questions. The assessment took place between 24 January and 31 January 2025, we visited the office on 31 January 2025. Systems and processes meant people were protected from avoidable harm. Recruitment and induction procedures were robust and there were enough staff. A blended training programme meant staff had the necessary skills and knowledge to provide care. People received their medicines as prescribed. Safeguarding procedures were in place. The service learned from accidents, incidents and events. People had access to health and social care professionals to ensure their wellbeing was supported. People were involved in making decisions about their care; it was reviewed regularly, and records were person centred. People’s rights were fully respected, and consent was sought. Staff were kind and caring, treating people with dignity, respect and passionate about their role. A member of staff told us, “I believe that supporting people to be independent, is important because it helps with confidence, mental and physical health and for people to maintain control over their own life. It gives them self-worth and dignity.” Partnership working and links were made, and the service was passionate about working within their local community. Governance systems were in place to ensure oversight. There was confidence in the registered manager and senior team.
