Our view of the service
Abbeywell Court is a care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 45 people. Care was provided in one adapted building across two floors. At the time of our inspection there were 39 people using the service. The assessment took place between 28 August 2024 and 06 September 2024. We undertook this assessment following information received about the quality of care provided, in particular how the provider managed people’s falls risks, distressed behaviours and eating and drinking needs as well as infection prevention and control procedures and provision of activities. The provider had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations. Risks to people were now mitigated and monitored safely. Care plans were now kept in date with people's changing needs and included accurate information. Medicines were now managed and stored safely. Governance systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service provided were now effective. Improvements were needed in the provision of personalised and group activities to ensure people's social needs were met.
People's experience of this service
People told us they received safe care, staff supported them to manage their risks safely, were supported to take their medicines safely and there were enough staff who knew their needs and treated them well. People told us the care home environment was safe and clean. While people liked living at the care home, they told us they were not always asked about how the care home could improve. People told us they were treated with kindness, compassion and dignity; and were treated as individuals. People gave mixed feedback about how much choice and control they have in their care and about how staff responded to their immediate needs. People told us the provider worked well with partner agencies in relation to their care.
