Our view of the service
Magna is a residential care home for adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. We carried out an assessment of this service to look at whether the service was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Our assessment included site visits on 13 February and 15 May 2024. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. People had the support they needed. Staff knew people well and followed their support plans to ensure they received consistent, high-quality care. The way people were supported maximised their choice, control and independence. The care and support provided was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. The service had a positive culture where people and staff were listened to. Staff knew how to speak up and said any concerns they raised would always be addressed. Managers and staff promoted the provider’s values. Staff at Magna provided care and support that maximised people’s choice, control, and independence. People were encouraged to follow their interests and make decisions about all aspects of their lives. Staff communicated with people in the way they preferred and promoted their dignity, privacy, and human rights. The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and staff ensured people using the service led confident, inclusive, and empowered lives.
People's experience of this service
People were supported by kind and caring staff who understood their needs. Staff used a range of communication methods to enable people to make decisions about their care and support. People attended ‘co-production meetings’ with managers and staff to have a say in how the service was run. The care and support provided at Magna was person-centred. and people were involved in creating and reviewing their own support plans. People used regular and specialised healthcare services depending on their needs, and staff advocated for them where necessary to ensure they received the services they were entitled to. Information was provided to people in a way they understood so they knew their rights and could make choices about how lived their lives. Staff listened to people, respected their wishes, and supported them to lead fulfilling lives.
