Braintree Mews Care Home

Date of assessment 24 July 2024 - 14 August 2024 Braintree Mews is a 'care home.' People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided and both were looked at during this inspection. Braintree Mews provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 75 older people including those living with dementia. Accommodation is located on three floors. There were a total of 26 people living at the service at the time of our assessment. This is the first assessment of this newly registered service. The assessment was prompted due to concerns raised in relation to safeguarding and risk. We looked at 33 quality statements and included all key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. Some concerns were identified in relation to care records and we received mixed feedback from staff about staffing at the service.

People and relatives we spoke with were happy overall with their experiences so far. People told us they felt safe and they were involved in their care and support. During the assessment we observed staff were responsive to people’s calls for assistance. People told us they could access the GP if they needed to and that they were supported to see other health professionals if necessary. Feedback received by CQC raised concerns about a persons care. The registered manager advised they would complete a full care review. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People had developed positive relationships with the staff, who treated them with respect and kindness. A person told us, “Since being at Braintree Mews I am able to relax and staff will do anything for me.” A relative told us, “It is amazing, I cannot fault them.” l
