Governance, management and sustainability
At the assessment on 21 February 2025, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation. The registered person had developed effective systems and processes which enabled them to assess, monitor and improve the quality and safety of the services being provided. Audits of disability access, radiography, and infection and prevention control (IPC) were reviewed during the assessment and the inspection team saw that these included documented learning points and actions taken to drive improvement. The practice had taken action to address the actions identified in the IPC audits from May 2024 and subsequent audits. Improvements had been made to the organisation of information and evidence which was presented during the assessment, and it was now clear and well documented. The practice had a governance system which included policies, protocols and procedures that were accessible to all members of staff and were readily available on the day of our assessment. Following our last assessment, the service had removed the motion sensors and live video feeds (referred to as CCTV in our previous report) from the waiting room and decontamination room . The practice should consider installing clear signage to inform patients they are being recorded by the motion sensors and live video feed at the front door.
The principal dentist had invested in refurbishing the practice, including a new autoclave and a washer disinfector, which was due to be installed in the week following our assessment. A washer disinfector cleans and disinfects dental instruments before sterilisation. Since our last assessment, the practice had recruited a qualified dental nurse, and an associate dentist had joined the practice. Disclosing and Barring Service (DBS) checks, satisfactory evidence of conduct in previous employment and full employment histories had been obtained for these staff members, according to relevant legislation. Newly appointed staff had a structured induction, and clinical staff completed continuing professional development required for their registration with the General Dental Council. The practice had arrangements to ensure staff training was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals.
