Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 24 June 2024

Pranam Care Centre is a care home for up to 50 adults, including people living with the experience of dementia and people with mental health needs. At the time of our assessment, 49 people were living there. Our assessment started on 12 August 2024 and ended on 21 August 2024. We carried out an unannounced visit to the service on 20 August 2024. The assessment took place to follow up on concerns identified at the last inspection (published 5 January 2023) when we rated the service requires improvement. At the last inspection, we identified breaches of Regulations relating to safe care and treatment, dignity and respect and good governance. At this assessment, we found improvements had been made and the provider was no longer breaching any regulations. For more details about our findings, please see our key question summaries.

People's experience of the service

Updated 24 June 2024

As part of our assessment, we contacted the local authority contracts monitoring team for feedback about the service. We also spoke with 2 other external professionals who regularly worked with the service. We carried out a site visit and spoke with 14 people who lived at the service and 3 visiting family members/friends. We met staff on duty and spoke with staff undertaking a range of different roles. We spoke with 2 volunteers who visited to provide social activities. We met members of the management team, including the registered manager. We observed how people were being cared for and supported. Our observations included the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We looked at a range of records, carried out an assessment of the environment and equipment and we looked at how medicines were being managed. The assessment was carried out by 3 inspectors, 2 regulatory coordinators, an Expert by Experience and a member of the CQC medicines inspection team. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. People using the service and their relatives were happy with the care they received. They felt the service was safe and comfortable. They received personalised care which met their needs and reflected their preferences. People were able to make choices, and these were respected. People told us the staff were kind, caring and polite. We also observed this. The provider had made improvements to the way the service was managed, how they monitored care and how they worked with external partners to promote best practice. This was reflected in the feedback we received from others, including the external professionals working with the service.
