During a routine inspection
People told us the dental practice was easily accessible and they were always greeted well by the reception staff. They told us they liked the quiet waiting area where they could sit and read the various magazines made available. Most people we spoke with said they were usually seen on time. People told us they were usually seen by the same dentist and nurse to ensure their continuity of care and treatment. People considered that the staff knew them well and were familiar with their needs, for example if they were a nervous patient. One person told us staff were aware of a health condition they had and said they were always given time to lie back in the dental chair and adjust to the position before treatment commenced.
People told us they had completed a health questionnaire. One person told us they were always asked if there had been any changes to their general health or their medication as they had a number of health problems that their dentist was fully aware of. People said they felt fully involved in their treatment and said their check ups and treatment were always thorough. They told us their checks included their gums, soft tissue and x-rays were undertaken if required.
People told us they were not given any unnecessary treatment. They said if they needed any extensive treatment they were given time to consider their treatment options and any costs involved. They said they were always advised how much they would be charged for their treatment.
People we spoke with said the practice was 'always' clean. One person said, 'It's always spotlessly clean, I have no concerns at all'. People confirmed that clinical staff wore personal protective clothing such as gloves, aprons and eye protection.
A professional who recently delivered infection control training to the staff told us, 'It was a good session with plenty of questions and all the staff were receptive to the training. I have no concerns about the practice'.
