We spoke privately with four patients who were attending the service for an appointment. All the patients were happy with the care they had received .Patients told us they were put at ease by the skill and experience demonstrated by the staff. Their comments included:"I wouldn't go anywhere else".
"They are very caring and considerate".
"They understand my needs and anxieties".
"The hygienist is lovely, they know me so well, anything I am worried about we can talk about"
Patient's consent was gained at each treatment episode and people were happy that they had been given a choice of options with clear explanations of both treatment and costs.
The dental surgeries we looked at on the day of the visit were of a suitable size and were clean and well maintained. Each room was fully equipped and we observed staff carrying out cleaning procedures in between each patient, thus minimising the risk of cross infection.
We found that relevant checks had been carried on staff before they were allowed to work at the service.
During our visit we identified some improvements were required regarding the security of records.
The service was not able to provide robust evidence of effective quality monitoring systems.
