Brewood Medical Centre is a general practice who provide general medical services to a patient population of around 11,000 patients and is part of the Stafford South Primary Care Network (PCN). The practice consists of 3 sites, Brewood (main site), Wheaton Aston and Coven, which is located within Coven Memorial Hall. The practice dispensary service is provided from the Wheaton Aston site. Under our previous methodology the practice was rated good overall at the inspection carried out on 6 February 2019. We carried out this assessment between 10 April 2024 and 3 May 2024 in response to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) receiving information of concern, in respect of the branch site at Coven. We looked at a range of quality statements in the key questions, safe effective, responsive, and well-led. During our assessment we identified areas for improvement which resulted in a breach of Regulation 19 Fit and Proper Persons of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (regulated Activities) Regulation 2014. The shortfalls identified included the lack of management and oversight of risk in some areas. For example, staff training and recruitment records, emergency medicines availability/risk assessments at the Coven site and cervical screening. The provider took immediate action to mitigate safety risks found at the Coven site.
