Our current view of the service

The assessment commenced on 29 October 2024 and ended on 8 November 2024. This inspection was carried out due to concerns raised about the service and to follow up on previous breaches in relation to medicine management, infection prevention and control, risks associated with people’s care and governance. These concerns led to a warning notice being served. The service comprises of 6 houses and an office building. At the time of our inspection 4 houses were occupied and there were 65 people using the service. At this assessment we found a newly appointed management team were making positive changes and had worked to improve the service. The staff told us they felt changes had happened for the best and most people enjoyed living at the home. The provider had met 2 of the previous breaches, and met the warning notice but remained in breach of the regulation for governance as systems required embedding into practice.
People's experience of the service

We spoke with 19 people and 2 relatives. People were mainly happy with the service and care they received. Although people commented there were not enough activities and would like to go out more. One person said, “I only get to go to the shop, they [staff] used to take us on trips.” Another person said, “I would like to go to church but nobody has taken me and there’s no service here [Haythorne Place].” People told us they felt safe living at the home. One person said, “I feel safe here because I trust staff here. The staff are kind and supportive.” Another person said, “I feel safe, I have no worries.” We observed staff interacting with people and found staff knew people well. We saw some nice interactions and friendly, appropriate banter shared between them. However, in 1 house we found interactions were not always person centred and occasionally staff were observed being abrupt with people.
