We found governance systems had improved since our last inspection; however, they required further embedding into practice ensuring their efficacy. The management team acknowledged the service required further development and was in the process of driving improvements. People told us they knew who the manager was and found them approachable. One person said, “Oh yes, it’s well run, I know who the manager is, and I recognise them but don’t know what they are called.” Another person said, “It’s [the home] is well run and organised.” One relative said, “From what I see it is well run. I have good communication with them [staff].”

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

Staff felt the current management team were improving the service. One staff member said, “In the past that management have not shared their vision or any concerns about the home, so it’s been hard to know how to improve. The current manager is more informative, and we are getting somewhere now.” Another staff member said, “It feels that the current manager is dedicated to her role and is approachable and leads the service well. They focused on risk. It feels the manager is the right person to drive the service forward.

Since our last inspection the management team had changed and there was a new manager, deputy manager and regional manager who were establishing as a team.

Governance, management and sustainability

Staff were confident in the current management team and told us they had made positive changes. Staff felt involved in the running of the home and told us the management team were supportive and approachable.

Systems in place have improved since last inspection, and now require embedding in to practice to ensure constant monitoring, improvement and quality assurance. Some people were living with a learning disability. We discussed this at length with the management team who were looking at ways to best meet people's needs.

Learning, improvement and innovation

Staff were confident the current management team were improving the home. Staff felt more involved in the service and had attended staff meetings and been given regular updates. All staff we spoke with had faith in the current manager and felt they were the right person to improve the service.

Leaders acknowledged there was still areas to improve but could evidence some learning and improvement since our last inspection. The manager acknowledged activities could be improved and had plans in place to drive this forward. Plans included more person centred activities including a Christmas choir. Medicine management had improved since our last inspection and the provider could now demonstrate people received their medicines as prescribed. Handover records had improved to include actions taken as a result of issues identified. The management team had identified a poor culture developing in one house and had begun taking actions to address this. The manager had plans to base themselves in this area. Systems required further embedding into practice.
