Caring

The service was caring and has been rated good. People and their relatives described care staff as “caring” and “lovely.” People were respected and their dignity upheld. People received support to maintain their independence. The provider and staff understood the importance of people receiving reliable, continuous care from familiar staff. Staff welfare was promoted , and they received regular one-to-one support.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

People were complimentary about the staff who supported them. They described staff as “friendly” and “lovely”. People said they had good relationships with staff and felt they were treated with respect and dignity. One person commented, “They talk to me if I am upset, or whatever I need at the time. They are very lovely people.”

Staff told us their colleagues went “above and beyond” for all the people they supported. One care worker said, “All the team are caring and kind, we have a good bunch of staff, and we all get along.”

Feedback received from partner agencies did not indicate any concerns with the caring manner of staff.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People said staff understood their preferences and treated them as individuals. Their comments included, “They are like friends and I have got to know them very well” and “They always ask me at each visit what I want them to do, and they look after me very well.”

Managers and staff treated people as individuals. They described how they worked with people in a person-centred manner and tailored their approach to match individual wishes.

Daily care records demonstrated the service was responsive to changes in individual people’s health, particularly where it had deteriorated.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People said their independence was respected and encouraged. One person commented, “I am so independent. They know if I can do it myself, I will do it.” Another person told us, “They listen to me and what I want. They respect my choice.”

Managers and staff described how people were supported to be as independent as possible and to have choice and control over their lives.

Daily care notes demonstrated people’s choices and independence had been respected during each visit .

Responding to people’s immediate needs

People said staff took time to chat and engage with them. They said staff recognised when people might need urgent support and gave examples of occasions where staff had contacted emergency services.

The management team described how they listened and responded to people’s views and acted on them in a timely way.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Managers valued each staff member. Staff were positive about how their well-being was promoted by the management team. One staff member commented, “The management are approachable and supportive. If you have a problem, they will do their very best to help you.”

Managers held regular supervision sessions with each staff member which included a space for them to discuss their well-being and any support they needed. Staff had the skills to carry out their role and were supported to develop further. There was a training programme in place and additional training was provided when needed.
