Dalvey House is a residential care home, registered to accommodate up to 23 people. The home does not provide nursing care. There were 23 people living at Dalvey House on the day of our assessment. The assessment commenced on 31 July 2024 and was completed on 1 August 2024. Two inspectors attended Dalvey House to meet with the registered manager, people and staff. The assessment was prompted by concerns we had received about staff understanding around consent to care and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Following the inspection we did not have any concerns about consent to care and treatment and compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 within the home. People's rights were protected and staff understood and followed the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Staff understood the need to ensure consent was obtained from people before providing support and care to them. Recruitment systems were in place, with staff recruited appropriately to ensure people’s safety. There were enough staff on each shift to ensure people were cared for safely. Risk assessments were personalised and guided staff to support people safely whilst still maintaining their independence. The registered manager and senior staff team were established and demonstrated an approachable, open-door policy. The registered manager had identified areas for improvement in some processes and was committed to ensuring these actions would be followed through and completed. Staff told us the registered manager provided full support and guidance and was always available for them. A member of staff told us, “I feel supported, I have the experience and I am happy to speak up. [Registered Manager] will deal with any concerns straight away. I feel I can go to them at any time if I had any problems.”
