Date of assessment: 30 August to 04 September 2024. Crusader Surgery delivers services over two sites, which are both in Great Clacton, they are NHS GP practices located in the coastal town of Clacton, Essex in an area of high deprivation compared with national levels. There were approximately 10,840 people registered with the service at the time of our assessment. We conducted this follow-up assessment after the practice received a rating of requires improvement overall in 2023. At the 2023 inspection we assessed 5 key questions safe, effective, and well-led that were rated good, and caring and responsive, were rated requires improvement. At this assessment in 2024 we assessed and scored 16 quality statements in all 5 key questions. At this assessment, we found safety was well-managed. We were assured that staff provided effective care and treatment. People told us the provider was caring and responsive to their needs. We found the practice was well-led, having effective regularly reviewed and updated governance systems, policies, and procedures.

People's experience of the service

Updated 29 July 2024

Feedback from people during the visit to the practice was positive about the improved access to services and the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including the NHS Friends and Family Test, and Healthwatch reviews, showed people were satisfied with services. However, the National GP Patient Survey was still negative in comparison with local and national averages about accessing the practice by the telephone. In response to the July 2024 national survey the practice and their patient participation group (PPG) had carried out their own surveys, this showed improved, and positive patient experiences.
