Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 18 June 2024

Date of assessment 11 July to 25 July 2024. We undertook this assessment as we had received some information of concern regarding falls management at the home. We received reports that people were falling regularly, and robust action was not being taken to minimise these risks. We also received some concerns about the general care within the home. We found that people were at risk of falls and there had been some previous gaps, however the service had been working closely with external agencies improve this quickly and manage and minimise risks to people. People had robust care plans and risk assessments in place, and staff knew people well. Some documentation could be improved, for example food and fluid charts, however the management team were receptive to this feedback and had already put measures in place to address this. They were also reviewing staff deployment levels to ensure these were sufficient across the whole day. There was a positive learning culture at the service and staff spoke of pride in working for the home. People told us they felt safe, and relatives commented on how kind and caring staff were. Regular training was undertaken to ensure staff knowledge remained up to date and relevant to best support people living at Blatchington Manor.

People's experience of the service

Updated 18 June 2024

People and their relatives spoke mostly positively about Blatchington Manor. Not every person living at the home was able to speak with us therefore we used observations to gather additional feedback. People were comfortable around staff and there was a calm atmosphere at the home. Staff knew people well. Feedback about staffing levels at the home was mixed, with some relatives commenting that there were not enough staff. However, they were complimentary about the staff practice and told us they were kind and caring. Our observations confirmed this. People told us that they felt safe and would not have any hesitation in raising concerns should they need to. Relatives were involved in their loved one’s care and told us the management team were responsive and approachable for any issues to be raised and addressed.
