Hill Brow Surgery PMS Practice is located at Hill Brow Surgery, Long Croft, Mapplewell, Barnsley, S75 6FH and consists of a main building and an annex referred to as the 'Gate House'. There is a branch surgery at 100 Rotherham Road, Smithies, Barnsley, S71 1UT.
The practice is registered with the CQC to carry out the following regulated activities - diagnostic and screening procedures, surgical procedures, family planning, maternity and midwifery services and treatment of disease, disorder or injury.
The practice has a contract with Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which is made up of 33 general practices. The practice provides Personal Medical Services (PMS) and offers enhanced services for various immunisation checks. It has extended hours access, minor surgery, learning disability, alcohol and people living with dementia health check schemes.
When the practice is closed, out of hours cover for emergencies is provided by Barnsley Healthcare Federation out-of-hours service. The practice is currently part of a wider network of GP practices. At the time of our inspection there were 17,258 patients on the practice list.
The practice has ten GPs, an advanced nurse practitioner, an independent prescribing pharmacist, a paramedic, five practice nurses, four healthcare assistants, a business manager, a practice manager and an extensive administrative team.
Hill Brow Surgery PMS Practice is in one of the less deprived areas of Barnsley. The practice catchment area is classed as being within the fourth least deprived areas in England. The practice scored seven on the deprivation measurement scale; the deprivation scale goes from one to 10, with one being the most deprived. People living in more deprived areas tend to have greater need for health services.
National General Practice Profile describes the practice ethnicity as being 98.1% white British, 0.8% Asian, 0.2% black, and 0.7% mixed and 0.2% other non-white ethnicities.
The practice demographics show a slightly higher than average percentage of people in the 65+ year age group. The general practice profile shows that 58% of patients registered at the practice have a long-standing health condition, compared to 55% locally and 52% nationally.
