Date of assessment: 21 May 2024 to 14 June 2024. Sidley Medical Practice is located in East Sussex in an area of lower deprivation. Approximately 14,000 people were registered with the service at the time of our assessment. We conducted this assessment in response to information of concern. We assessed 13 quality statements across safe, effective, and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas with scores from the last inspection. During our assessment we found the following: The practice had not promoted a culture of learning where safety was a priority for everyone. Arrangements to make sure people were protected from abuse and neglect were unclear. The effectiveness of people’s care and treatment was not always maximised. Governance and management systems were ineffective. Information about risks, performance and outcomes was not being used consistently to improve care. Our findings resulted in breaches of 3 regulations: safe care and treatment, staffing and good governance.

We sought people’s experience through our Give Feedback on Care webform, Healthwatch, the Friends and Family Test and the national GP patient survey. In summary people’s overall experience of the practice is as follows: people found practice staff to be kind, helpful, attentive, and polite. However, they often found it difficult to get through on the phone and get an appointment. Some experienced delays in getting prescriptions and test results. There was a patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. PPG representatives described positive changes such as improved signage and an updated staff list. However there were concerns from patients about constant management changes in the practice and the loss of GPs. Some patients found the appointment system difficult to access.
