People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. People were supported to understand and manage risk. Care plans were clear and provided sufficient guidance to staff to keep people safe. There were sufficient and appropriately trained staff in place to support people.

People told us they were involved in making decisions about their care and support. People said there was a meeting when their care needs changed, and they were involved in this.

Staff knew how to find out information about the care and support that people needed to manage their risks. They said that people’s care plans and risk assessments were easy to follow.

Care plans and risk assessments showed step by step guidance for staff to know how to support the person. They included information from partners involved in the person’s care and who was responsible to ensure the person’s needs were safely met.

Partners told us that the provider worked with them to ensure there was continuity of care for the person. They ensured that if a person needed to go into hospital that they supported them, so all services knew how to safely support the person.

People told us they felt confident to raise any concerns they might have and said these would be listened to.

Staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe. Staff said they knew how to raise concerns and that the provider supported them where needed and listened to any concerns they raised. Leaders notified the local authority and CQC of any safeguarding concerns where required.

People told us they were supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well. People said staff attended on time and did not miss any of their scheduled calls. People told us they felt the staff had the skills to support them safely.

Staff told us they were well supported by the management team and felt confident to raise any concerns. They told us there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff confirmed they received regular supervision. Staff said that managers regularly supervised them when working with people and assessed their skills to ensure they were competent to provide the care and support the person needed. Staff said they were always offered specialist training where needed to meet people’s needs.

Staff records confirmed that staff had received training and had been checked as competent to do is. The provider completed appropriate police and criminal records checks, right to work checks were in place, references were obtained and verified. Staff received training to carry out their roles and were assessed by managers as competent to support people to meet their needs.
